An odd/interesting story from Sioux City TV station KTIV, from the District 16 debate Tuesday night.
Apparently Democratic candidate Ann Tornberg endorsed Republican incumbent Jim Bolin for reelection at Tuesday’s forum.
Rep. Patty Miller, a Republican, is seeking reelection in the House district, which has two seats.
But also running for a seat is another Democrat, Stanley Jacobson. Ordinarily, the two Republican nominees and the two Democratic nominees run as a team.
Bolin is a steady Republican vote on most issues but has an independent streak, especially on education issues. He voted against Gov. Dennis Daugaard’s education reform package HB 1234, and has crusaded against South Dakota’s involvement in the inter-state Common Core Standards initiative.
Tornberg made her cross-party endorsement at the very end of the forum — after the cameras had been turned off, according to Bolin, who praised Tornberg’s “spirited and determined campaign” in an email but didn’t quite return her favor.
