Where everybody knows if you voted: Here’s a fascinating postcard a [Sioux Falls] reader sent in. It was sent out by MoveOn.org, the liberal activist group. And it includes information that seems very personal: how many times that person has voted in recent general elections.
But that’s not really a very private piece of information. Campaigns and parties all know, usually up to the day, who’s voted. If you vote early, you probably will stop getting campaign postcards, because they will recognize this and stop targeting you. It’s one of many facts about you campaigns and parties have in their sophisticated, proprietary database systems.
This go-vote ad (probably targeted at people MoveOn believes are likely to support its ideas, but who knows) drives home that point.
(Updated to note that the postcard was sent to a Sioux Falls address.)
