The winter storm hitting South Dakota today has had broad impacts — Mount Rushmore is closed, and lawmakers are heading out of town early. Even the state’s governor isn’t immune.
Daugaard doesn’t have any state travel this weekend, but he was thinking about heading to Sioux Falls, where his daughter Laura Daugaard Mitchell is expecting a child, and Daugaard’s wife Linda Daugaard is lending a hand.
“Linda’s back east at our daughter’s house, painting the new baby’s room, or the baby-to-be’s room,” Daugaard said Friday morning. “I was going to come back and help.”
But with snow coming, those plans may be on hold.
“I may wait and see what the weather does,” Daugaard said. “I may stand down.”
Daugaard’s press secretary, Joe Kafka, pointed out that the cancelled trip wouldn’t necessarily be a total loss.
“That way he gets out of painting duty,” Kafka said.
