New Sioux Falls school to be named for George McGovern

A northwest Sioux Falls public middle school set to open in August 2014 has been named for George McGovern, the U.S. senator from South Dakota and presidential candidate who died in October at age 90.

Sandra Henry, an administrator with the Sioux Falls School District, said the school naming committee was unanimous in the selection.

“The overwhelming recommendation from the community at large, the staff at Axtell Park Middle School and the student body at Axtell Park unanimously support the name,” she said.
