The first big committee day of the 2013 session

Right now, at 7:45 a.m., there are legislative hearings dealing with guns in schools, open government reforms, and the Legislature’s long-term planning committee — the last an issue without much public salience, but one controversial among certain segments of the Republican activist community.

If you can call that an opening act, at 10 a.m. are hearings on the “social hosting” bill, a measure to create a fight commission, and 85-octane reforms.

All that is happening on the same day as State Tribal Relations Day at the Capitol.

After a slow few weeks, the Legislature is finally shifting into gear.
