Gov. Dennis Daugaard has picked the final two members of the new South Dakota Athletic Commission, which will regulate fighting sports like boxing and mixed martial arts.
Daugaard previously said he wanted to pick another person with interest in fighting sports and a layperson for the final two, and that one of them had to be a non-Republican. He did that in the final two picks: Maggie Gillespie, a Democratic former legislator, and Lee Lohoff, a Yankton attorney, boxer, and promoter of mixed martial arts.
Previously chosen for the commission were Sioux Falls doctor Michael Bergeron, Spearfish surgeon Richard Little, and Belle Fourche trainer Michael Kilmer.
