He’s done a number of TV appearances over the years, but Woster’s entire journalism career until this point has been in the print media. His journalistic chops aren’t in doubt — he’ll bring KELO plenty of scoops, including in politics. I’ll certainly have to up my game. The bigger question is how he’ll handle shifting to television journalism, and particularly the technical aspects. Traditionally, KELO’s Rapid City bureau is a one-person shop without a separate camera-person. If that’s still the case, Kevin will have to master both the presentational aspects of TV journalism, as well as operating the camera, framing shots, connecting to Sioux Falls for live shots, and perhaps editing.
Still, this is a coup for KELO and a soft landing for Kevin after his departure from the Journal.
Also of note: Woster will be blogging for KELO, presumably about his twin passions of politics and the outdoors. He blogged for many years for the Rapid City Journal, and after resigning started up a Tumblr blog, “Tell Kevin.”
